New Year – What Will be Different in 2025?

As we approach the end of the year, most of us are going to be thinking about what we want to get done in the coming new year. We’ll find a quiet moment and begin to write down our hopes and dreams for 2025. This, of course, will begin the process of setting goals for 2025.

Most of the time, we do this with mixed feelings. For one thing, we remember all those years when we spent hours and hours detailing our goals only to find out at the end of the year, nothing had really changed. This is frustrating because we had written what we thought were very good goals. They were concrete and focused. They were concrete and specific.

And yet, nothing got done. Nothing changed. Why not?

Our brains have a funny way of dealing with goals. For some reason, once we write down a goal, we think we’ve accomplished that goal. When we see it on paper, we think we’re done. As we all know, writing down the goal doesn’t accomplish the goal.

Agreeing on a goal isn’t enough. In fact, it’s only the first step. To be successful, action steps must be attached to every goal. “Here’s what I what to do and here’s how I will accomplish it.” For instance, our goal for this year will be “Lose 20 pounds.” (Isn’t that everyone’s goal?). Now, how will we do that? The next sentence is “by working out 4 days a week in the gym.” Without an action step, nothing will be accomplished.

So, have you written down your goals for this year? Do they have action steps? Nothing will be different in the coming year unless we do something different. Remember, if we want 2025 to BE different, we begin by DOING differently.

Without doing something, nothing gets done.

Happy New Year!
